Rebecca Wells: Professional Garden Design, Exeter, Devon
I'm passionate about gardens and my interest is in working with my clients to make sure that you have a beautiful, exciting and satisfying garden, whatever your life-style and your financial and time budget. A well-designed garden adds so much to your enjoyment and quality of life as well as to the value of your property.
Now based in Exeter, I have been a professional garden designer for over twenty years, with a wide portfolio which includes gardens all over Devon and Somerset, as well as in London, Scotland and France. I completed the City & Guilds garden design module at Capel Manor, London and the intensive Garden Design course led by the internationally acclaimed designer John Brookes MBE FSGD at East Lambrook Manor, passing both courses with Distinction. I constantly update my existing skills and learn new ones. I love the way different genres of music, art and design enrich each other and our lives and I am excited by the way everything I see and learn informs my designs.
I have qualifications in practical horticulture from Bicton and Cannington Colleges. I am working towards full membership of the Society of Garden Designers, the only national body for professional garden designers. I frequently lecture to Horticultural Societies. I have written for various publications including the Garden Design Journal, Grow It magazine, Good Homes magazine and as Garden Features writer for Ex1 magazine.
Usually, I work on private gardens of all styles and sizes, from city courtyards to large rural gardens, but I have also designed public spaces and community gardens, working closely with residents, local authorities, architects, artists, wildlife experts and landscapers.
I bring to any project:-
- a keen eye for design and a stylishly sensitive interpretation of the client's wishes
- imagination and flair yet practicality too
- a sensitivity to the site and the wider environment
- an understanding of the dynamics of outside spaces and garden construction
- sound, practical horticultural skill and extensive, passionate plant knowledge
- warmth, humour and enthusiasm.
