Services Offered

I want to help you to have as lovely a garden as possible. I am very flexible in the way I work because each client and every garden is completely different.  My services will be tailored to your needs so that, together, we can achieve the garden you will enjoy and feel confident about.

Advisory Visit

It may be that what you need is some advice about how you can cheer up a tired-looking garden, make a difference when your budget is limited, put the sparkle back into an old planting scheme or simply how to look after your garden properly. You need to call an experienced expert. My advisory visit lasts between 2-3 hours and will focus on whatever aspect of your garden you like. Afterwards I will send you a written report summarising our discussion and detailing my suggestions.

I charge £145.00 + mileage

 THE DESIGN PROCESS

The Design Service
It may be that a full design is required because you wish to make wide-ranging improvements to your garden.
The design process begins with a visit to discuss your requirements, style preferences and budget. This forms the brief on which the design is based. I will submit this as a written report for your agreement together with a fixed fee quotation for the design work. My fee for this visit and report is £90 plus mileage above 15 miles. If you decide to commission me I shall undertake the following

  • a detailed survey of the site, including taking levels, a plant audit, soil tests and site assessment
  • drawing up the site survey, to scale, and necessary research
  • the drawing up and personal presentation of a fully resolved design proposal  for your approval.
  • the drawing up of a detailed layout plan with details and notes, a setting out plan and  a schedule of works so that the project can be submitted to contractors for their quotation
  • a planting scheme, descriptive list and plant schedule
  • a meeting on site with the contractor to discuss the project before work starts
  • a site visit at the setting out stage

 THE BUILD

So, now you are ready to go ahead and build the garden. You may well have a contractor in mind but, if not, I am able to recommend some. I always do a site visit at the setting out stage to make sure that everything is as it should. If you would like, I will monitor the process of building the garden, making regular visits to ensure that the build goes smoothly and that the finished garden remains true to the design.

PLANTING

Most of us, when we consider a garden, think of plants. They make the garden more than just an outside room and they underline the basic design. It is important that the plants chosen will thrive in their new surroundings. I am able to source good quality plants from specialist nurseries at competitive rates. I like to plant up the garden with my clients so that they become familiar and easy with the plants and feel real ownership of their finished garden.

FOLLOW UP

Now the garden is finished and you are able to enjoy using it but perhaps are unsure how to look after it. I want all my clients to really enjoy their gardens and to feel confident about their management.I am happy to write you a maintenance plan or to make subsequent visits to monitor progress and advise on care and maintenance, showing you what to do and how to do it. This will ensure that that the mystery is taken out of the horticulture and that your garden develops smoothly.

 ON-GOING DEVELOPMENT

Occasionally and if time allows, I take on the management and development of larger gardens, working with the regular gardener. This is of special value to clients who are often away or too busy to supervise staff but who want to know that the management of their garden is in good hands.
